BLEWS (Black/Jewish Forum of Baltimore) is really [about] coalition building, it's conversation, it's dialogue, it's bringing speakers together that are of mutual interest [to members]. I was an officer of BLEWS [in the mid 1980s] and I started a program there called 'Dinner and Dialogue' which brought together groups of eight people, four Jews and four Blacks and we'd meet every month for four months ...having dinner together and talking.
We also had training before the program started with a woman who does diversity training and that was really a lot of fun and then [we] had meetings afterwards to talk. We had several groups of those eight. I think in the first year we had four different groups of eight, it was a pilot project and expanded after that.
