Long before gay marriage became a reality, Cheryl Moch dared to dream a gay marriage fairy tale. At the Jewish Student Network’s 1974 National Conference on Women and Men, Moch helped found the short-lived Jewish Feminist Organization, which supported full participation in the Jewish community for both men and women, regardless of gender or sexual orientation. Her 1985 play Cinderella, the Real True Story featured a cross-dressing Cinderella and a stubborn princess who demanded the king change the laws so they could be married. Shocked members of the British Parliament threatened to close the production during its London run, which only led to sold-out shows. The play continues to be performed around the world. As of 2023, Moch works as an elder abuse specialist for the New York City Department for the Aging.
