My mother told me that my Grandmother, her mother-in law used playing cards for divination rather than Tarot Cards. I wondered if this was associated with persecution of Jews for being fortune tellers. They were associated with the mystical part of Judaism in Kabbalah. They were also poor so it could have just meant that they were cheaper.
