Happy Mizrahi Heritage Month!
November is Mizrahi Heritage Month, when we celebrate the cultures and contributions of Mizrahi Jews, who trace their origins to the Middle East, North Africa, and Central Asia. To kick things off, check out some of our favorite JWA content by and about Mizrahi women:
- This piece by Mirushe Zylali about a digital archive for activists created by Mizrahi feminist Sapir Sluzker-Amran.
- Judith Rosenbaum's interview with Israeli author Ayelet Tsabari about her short story collection The Best Place on Earth, which tells the stories of Israel's Mizrahi Jews.
- Encyclopedia entries on notable Mizrahi women, including feminist activist Shula Keshet, artist Vered Nissim, and author Dorit Rabinyan.
- This essay by artist, musician, and feminist activist Loolwa Khazzoom, about what real Jewish diversity looks like.
- This episode of our podcast, Can We Talk?, about how an organization called JIMENA (Jews Indigenous to the Middle East and North Africa) is amplifying Sephardi and Mizrahi voices.
Look for more JWA content on Mizrahi women throughout the month!
Amplify Jewish women’s stories—Donate now to Jewish Women’s Archive
Before you close this article, please consider supporting the Jewish Women’s Archive and uplifting Jewish women’s voices.
At JWA, we preserve the voices of Jewish women and gender-expansive people past and present, share them freely with millions online, and empower a new generation of Jewish feminists to lead with courage, creativity, and conviction.
But none of this happens without you. JWA is an independent nonprofit— we rely on people, like you, who believe that history belongs to all of us and that the voices of Jewish women must remain powerful, and heard.
Every contribution—no matter the size—helps us document, teach, and inspire through Jewish women’s stories.
It takes less than a minute to make a difference. Thank you for standing with JWA when it matters most.
Thank you for being a part of the JWA community,

Judith Rosenbaum, CEO
