I disagree with many of the midrashim on this topic, particularly the identification of Vashti as Chaldean (i.e. Babylonian), and as the orphaned daughter of Belshazzar. Much of the history underlying this story was corrupted, intentionally, more than 2500 years ago, and EstherÌ¢âÂã¢s story was thereby dislocated from its actual timeframe. In the story, as IÌ¢âÂã¢ve come to know it, Vashti was later (after the birth of AhasuerusÌ¢âÂ㢠son, Darius, by Esther) given leave by the king to move to her brotherÌ¢âÂã¢s castle in Miletus, the same place to which Ahasuerus himself would retire in his extreme age.
