When I first read about Irene Nemirovsky in French, it was due to Anissimov that the original Suite FranÌÄå¤aise was published. Nemirovsky's daughter Denise went to Anissimov because she had worked on Romain Gary, who had been a friend of Nemirovsky's. It was Myriam who first suggested that the journal/novels in the suitcase be published. Later discussions of Nemirovsky's tremendously growing popularity seem to eliminate Anissimov's part in the whole thing, and yet she speaks very eloquently on the video that accompanied the exhibit in New York City at the Museum of Jewish Heritage. It is to Anisimov's work that I am indebted for my own entry in this encyclopedia on IRENE NEMIROVSKY.
