Marlene Booth

Marlene Booth is an award-winning filmmaker who has worked in film since 1975, both as an independent filmmaker and for public television station WGBH-TV in Boston. A graduate of Beloit College (B.A.) and Yale University (M.F.A.), Booth has produced and directed a number of major documentary films, such as Yidl in the Middle: Growing Up Jewish in Iowa; The Forward: From Immigrants to Americans; Pidgin: The Voice of Hawai‘i; and The Double Burden: Three Generations of Working Mothers.

Joan Micklin Silver

Award-winning director and screenwriter Joan Micklin Silver, born in 1935 in Omaha, Nebraska, wrote and directed the 1975 barrier-breaking independent film Hester Street, which sparked an interest in the lives of immigrant Jews. She also directed Crossing Delancey (1988), five other feature films, and several films for television.
