Bessie Berman was born in 1898 in Boston, Massachusetts. She grew up in the Boston area and, after high school, worked as a secretary to the rabbis at Temple Israel for fifty years. It was the first job Bessie ever held, and she continued to remain active at the Temple after she stopped working in that capacity.
Bessie first discusses her introduction to Temple Israel and how she got the job as secretary to Rabbi Harry Levi. She describes her roles and responsibilities, her relationship with her coworkers and the rabbis, and how her career unfolded over fifty years with Temple Israel.
