Many Jewish feminists have been deeply influenced by other women – public leaders, family members, and mythical figures – whose legacies inspired their actions and activism. These feminist foremothers continue to serve as role models and a source of pride and strength for many women today.
Feminists find role models in a long history of strong women – some celebrated, some virtually unknown – who embody women’s power and every woman’s potential to make change in the world.
Many feminists draw strength and inspiration from admirable women in their own lives. Family members, friends, and mentors help women define their personal ambitions and abilities.
In seeking role models, feminists sometimes imagine voices from the past. Bearing the heritage of unknown foremothers, they fill historical silences by representing the words and tales that were not recorded or remembered.
