Judith Kaplan 1922: An Instagram Stories Project

Dylan Tanzer as Judith Kaplan Eisenstein. Photographer: Roger Grange. Ironbound Films, Inc. Rights: Mik Moore.

March 18, 2022 marks the 100th anniversary of Judith Kaplan becoming the first bat mitzvah. To explore this groundbreaking moment, SAJ and JWA and partners have created @JudithKaplan1922 on Instagram, whose stories form a video journal set in New York City during the weeks before and after Judith's bat mitzvah. In addition to learning about Judith's preparations to become bat mitzvah, we find out about her interests, her friends and family, her love of music and Judaism, and her commitment to women's emancipation.
