Every now and then I look up dance masters I have had the great fortune to be trained by and it was with a sad heart that I discovered Pearl had passed away.

As but one of her many students at the Graham School her creative legacy resides in my body.

When I think of her I remember her choreography classes and my ignorant arguments over certain steps she absolutely abhorred. She refused to address me in the corridors unless I held myself,'Like a dancer!', and showed real disapointment if I wasn't dancing to my full potential.

She was able to make a real connection and was genuinely passionate. Pearl made me feel like I had chosen a noble calling. She made us try that lttle bit harder.

Her strong connection to her cultural heritage has influenced many a young budding choreographer the world over, to seek and represent theirs, of which I am lucky to include myself.
