More on UdinÌ¢‰â‰ã¢s work as a librarian in NYC.

Sophie Ada Udin joined the Circulation Department of the New York Public Library in July 1914, shortly after receiving her Certificate from the NYPL Library School. She then completed the second year course and received her Diploma from the Library School in 1918.

UdinÌ¢‰â‰ã¢s first assignment was at the Rivington Street Branch on the Lower East Side. In 1916 she was transferred to the Seward Park Branch, also on the Lower East Side.

In 1918 Udin was promoted to Assistant Branch Foreign Librarian. In 1919 she was transferred to the Tremont Branch and held that position until her first leave of absence in 1921. When she returned to NYPL in 1922, she was assigned to the Aguilar Branch and in 1924 returned to the Rivington Street branch as foreign assistant. It doesnÌ¢‰â‰ã¢t appear that she returned to NYPL after her second leave of absence.

The NYPL Staff News (December 22, 1921) published a long letter by Udin describing her travels in Palestine and her work on behalf of the Jewish National Library.

In 1928-1930, Udin worked as a Reviser in the Columbia University Library and then took a position as Bibliographic Researcher on the Encyclopedia of the Social Sciences at Columbia.
