Mr. Machlis' account of Tourel's life relies heavily on publicity that was created to hide or embellish certain facts. For one, the family name was Davidson in Russia, never Davidovitch. Secondly, her father was not a merchant, but a banker in Riga, Latvia where the family fled after the revolution. Thirdly, her career in Paris was established at the OpÌÄå©ra Comique, and her vocal technique was guided by her teacher, Anna Eltour, whose name she essentially made her own by turning around the syllables.

As a family member,I have been tolerating these inaccuracies for years and welcome the opportunity to suggest these changes.
