In the 1960's, I lived in Walla Walla Washington for an academic year. A commercial building had a brass? plaque containing the following information: that the parents of Alice B Toklas had a successful store there in which they sold necessities to the miners going to Alaska. The plaque also stated that because the store was such a great success the family moved to San Francisco when Alice was a child....
This is not mentioned in any biographical information on line. I'm sure about the building...The Jewish community even in the 1960's was very small and hidden at that time. Perhaps the information was incorrect??
