The tragic life of Anna Seghers and her generation is the tragedy of european jewry. The latter took two separate ways, a part of the younger generation, mainly intellectuals turned to Communism and her life under DDR says clearly where did this path lead. The other part that chose to move to Palestine, later Israel, took part in the building of the most fascinating project of the 20th century-the building of a new jewish state.
