I am surprised there is no mention that Boaz was obligated to marry Ruth , as he was the closest relative of the widow of a man who died without offspring (Levirate marriage). This is alluded to when she leaves his foot uncovered on the threshing floor. A relative who refuses to marry the widow participates in a ceremony where his shoe is removed and spat in by the widow.
