Capitaine (Fl.Lt.)Jean Maridor DFC introduced his WAAF Fiance Jean to Ida Rubinstein in 1944 and they were entertained to dinner in her apartment at The Ritz Hotel. She accepted an invitation to their wedding in Oxford arranged for 11th August 1944. Unfortunately, Jean Maridor, flying his MkIV Spitfire with 91 Squadron RAF was killed 3rd August 1944 whilst intercepting a V1 Flying Bomb over Benenden, Kent. In so doing he saved the lives some 450 war casualties in the hospital at Benenden School. His fiance, Jean, was my sister.
