The article which mentions me gives a false impression about the my tenure as a rabbi in New Zealand when it states that both Rabbi Ruth Langer and I "quickly left" for overseas. I came to New Zealand in June of 1983 as a STUDENT rabbi during my summer vacation from rabbinical student with the understanding that I would leave just after Yom Kippur of that year. In fact, I ended up staying an additional year and did not leave until October 8, 1984. Rabbi Langer came as a student rabbi in the summer of 1984 and left following her stint to resume her education.
We both loved our time in New Zealand and are pleased to have been part of the unfolding history of the New Zealand Jewish community.
