Oh, how glad I am to have found this page. I've never heard of this author but it sounds like I would be very interested in her work. Menke Katz was the first magazine editor to publish one of my poems. This was in 1987, I believe. May've been 88. I was happy but thought very little of Mr Katz or his journal, Bitterroot, for the next 20 plus years. Suddenly, I get a yen to search for Menke Katz on gooooooogle, the great Oracle (*wink*) in 2011; I find a site run by his son, Dovid, where Dovid has placed a handsome sample of his father's poems in English. I read, and am torn apart in my heart and mind by these brilliant poems. Menke (I mean no disrespect to use his first name only, but since that was the title of a book of his Yiddish poems translated into English (my copy of which I cherish and kiss frequently), perhaps he would not mind?) quickly becomes my favorite poet, replacing my beloved Keats. Later I find that he had a son named Noah and a daughter named Troim. A few years before, before I knew anything about Mr. Katz besides the fact that he was an editor of a poetry journal, I was busy with a novel, and my main character is called Noah, and he has a black friend, called Troy Van Buren. Coincidence? I don't know. Still later, I discover that Menke lived only a few miles from me during the late 1980's, in Glen Falls, NY. I lived in Mountainville, NY, in Orange County! Ahhhhh! Toooo much. Bless you, bless you, Troim Katz Handler. All my love and best wishes.
