The name of one of Keturah's descendant has similarity with the name of the biggest city in the island of Sumatera: Medan. Medan is located in northern Sumatera. Some scholars believed that the word Medan came from the word madan, as given by the founder of Medan,Guru Patimpus Sembiring Pelawi ( Karonese tribe, part of Batak community). But the word 'Medan' as written in Torah, is just the same as the word 'Medan' as now known.

One of Keturah's descendant, Shuah, has similarity with the common word used in Karonese in Sumatera, Suah. In Karonese language, Suah means downward.
