I was unfamiliar with her work until I started working as a volunteer at the Costume Institute. How close I do signs were always flattering, graceful and must have been lovely to wear. She had a refreshing way of using fabric that I am sure influenced many designers who came after her. The clothes were not showpieces; they were meant to enhance the beauty of the wearer.
