I have been wondering this for many years and yet, I am still not satisfied from your explanation. For example, you cite that "the life of a pregnant woman takes precedence over the fetus". Catholic doctrine holds true for the same. In the case of the danger of death or catastrophic illness, the mother may terminate the life of the unborn child. However, I get the feeling that you are referring to the lifeSTYLE of the pregnant woman rather than danger to her life. Why the latitude? It was my impression that Jews have struggled to survive through history and would be loathe to let difficulties in life lead them to kill their offspring. Why not choose life? Freely give the child away if need be but let the child be born!

Dr. Morganthataler's quote disturbs me too: "There was the desire to do something positive in my life, since this life could have been snuffed out". What is he talking about?? He snuffed out many lives and how is that positive? I am sincere in my lack of comprehension. Perhaps Jews are not concerned with the pro life movement because so few Jewish women actually have abortions? I think the number of abortions to Jews is quite small proportionally to gentiles. Is it not at least possible that the Jewish pro-abortion activities are not a subtle form of payback to centuries of gentile persecution? Dr. Morgantaler goes onto say that he wants a society where there will be no more Aushwitzes and no more Dachaus. Is there a better way to make sure of that than by eliminating the next generation of poorer gentiles?
