I am a gentile and male. I have the good (though different) fortune of having built my sense of masculinity and race around historic American women of African descent (African-American women). It deeply saddens my heart that, as far as my research has shown, no woman of African descent has won a Nobel Prize in the sciences - YET. Please know that great minds of women of color like Lise Meitner inspire ALL. They are icons of scientific greatness. And greatness in their inherent fight against misogynists and those women I call "self-misogynists" (for their own efforts to define femininity for other women). These women's greatness lies in their inspiring audacity to define womanhood for themselves. Boys and men need the great minds of women scientists to shine a light and to inspire. Of course, girls need these women as well. I am convinced that ALL women, especially women of color, have a scientific prowess that, at the very least, equals that of men. I believe that the day will come when women of African descent (American and otherwise), as well as other unrepresented women of color, will win Nobel Prizes in the sciences. I need you, we all need you. IT IS JUST A MATTER OF TIME!
