Joy Ladin is an English professor at Yeshiva University's Stern College for Women. Ladin was born Jay Ladin, and when she told University officials that she was transitioning to become a woman in 2006, she was put on indefinite leave. The decision was revoked after Ladin’s lawyers sent a letter to the school. She faced some resistance from the community, but also received support from her students. She has continued to be a proud, transgender voice in the Jewish community.

She is the author of Alternatives to History, The Book of Anna, and Transmigrations.
