After serving for 10 years in the House of Representatives, Barbara Levy Boxer was elected to the U.S. Senate in 1993. She is the first woman to Chair the Environment and Public Works Committee. She is also Chairwoman of the Select Committee on Ethics, making her the only U.S. Senator ever to head two committees simultaneously.
