Schwebel's Bakery was founded in 1906 by Dora and Joseph Schwebel. It began its life as a kosher bakery, famous for its rye bread. Upon the death of her husband in 1928, Dora become the president and sole proprietor of Schwebel's Bakery, becoming a strong business woman at time when such entities were rarities. Dora Schwebel paid for Jewish relatives to come to the United States from Poland and ran a successful family business through two World Wars and a Great Depression until her death in 1964. Schwebel's Bakery remains a successful family business, supplying bread products across Ohio and Pennsylvania, as well as to Disney World's Epcot Center.
