Jewish Women on the Map - National New York Packing and Shipping Company

Location

National New York Packing and Shipping Company
West 36th Street
New York City, NY
United States

Ethel Rosenberg, the second woman in the United States to be executed by the federal government, worked here for 3.5 years. The NY Packing and Shipping Company was where she was first introduced to radical leftist politics, as she met and mixed with non-Jews, underpaid and exploited workers, union organizers, and active members of the Communist Party. She would eventually be convicted and executed on June 19, 1953, with her husband Julius Rosenberg, for conspiracy to divulge atomic secrets to the Soviet Union.
