Jewish Women on the Map - The Fulton Fish Market
The Fulton Fish Market
800 FOOD CENTER DRIVE10474 BRONX, NY
Gloria Wasserman, known as "Annie," was a fixture at the Fulton Fish Market for decades. She recently passed away and was profiled in the New York Times. Annie was "somewhere between a bag lady and a pin-up girl, a huckster and a philanthropist." She sold cigarettes and candy bars and kept her money in deep pockets sewn into her clothes. She was a Jewish mother to the many of homeless women she knew. She gave away everything she earned and even put her grandaughter through college.
