Biochemist Maxine Frank Singer is the president emerita of the Carnegie Institution for Science and a founder of the Carnegie Academy for Science Education, which promotes inspiring science education that empowers children to ask questions, teaches basic analytical skills, and broadens educational and career horizons.  Dr. Singer received the National Medal of Science on June 23, 1992.
