Gertrude Elion discussing the Nobel Prize and the responsibility it gave her to encourage young people to enter scientific careers

"What it has done is given me the responsibility of imparting to young people, and particularly to women, the feeling of how important research is, and how exciting it can be. It's a particular responsibility for me, because there have been so few women Nobelists, but it's kind of an awesome one."
