Weils presidential address at the Fifth Annual Conference of the North Carolina Association of Jewish Women

Weil served three times as president of the North Carolina Association of Jewish Women, founded in 1921 by her aunt Sarah. The goals for the Association that she articulates in this address are typical of Weil: she brings together the spiritual and the social, the religious and the practical. While telling her audience that "[o]ur one big purpose...is to hold the torch of idealism before our people...., to prod them to still greater heights of spiritual achivements," she does not neglect the very important social and practical purpose the Association fulfilled in a state with a small and scattered Jewish population. Also typical of Weil's mindset was the NCAJW's emphasis on bringing together Jews of various backgrounds and outlooks, from Reform to Orthodox, new immigrant to native North Carolinian.
