One of the leading Jewish philanthropists of the second half of the twentieth century, Joy Ungerleider-Mayerson founded the Dorot (generations) Foundation, which allocates grants for activities that reflect "a commitment to the Jewish past, present and future." In 1994, a Dorot professorship of modern Jewish and Holocaust Studies was instituted at Emory University in Atlanta, and the post was filled by historian Deborah Lipstadt.
