Summer Camp 1 - still image [media]

Summer Camp 1 - still image [media]

Summer camping became an American institution in the aftermath of World War I, evolving within a society that was concerned with children and wished to raise the next generation as "able bodied" and "morally upright" American citizens. This photo of young women by a swimming pool was taken at a summer camp under the auspices of the Young Womens Hebrew Association (YWHA).

Institution: 92nd Street Y, New York City
