Sartorio-Angiola - still image

After years of oblivion, modern dance pioneer Angiola Sartorio has recently been rediscovered. This daughter of a great Italian painter and a German-Jewish mother created a dance company which in 1937 was forced to perform for Hitler, an event which precipitated her emigration from Europe to the United States. She is shown here c. 1920s.
