Levy-Amy - still image

Levy-Amy - still image

This picture of the British poet and novelist Amy Levy was taken in January 1889, just six months before she took her own life at the age of twenty-seven. It first appeared alongside Oscar Wilde's tribute to this exceptional individual—a Jewish woman of letters in nineteenth century England—published in an 1890 issue of Women's World.

Photographer: Montabone; Institution: Katherine Solomon
