Kaulla, Chaile - still image [media]

Kaulla, Chaile - still image [media]

There were few female Court Jews in Germany and even fewer whose businesses were the result of their own initiative rather than inheritance. The pious and philanthropic Chaile Raphael Kaulla started an independent firm and became the most influential Jewish woman entrepreneur in eighteenth-century Germany, providing financial assistance to her co-religionists as well as to the future king and the imperial army.
