Hendel, Nechama - still image [media]

Jerusalem-born Nechama Hendel became one of Israel's foremost singers, famous for her Hebrew rendering of the Yiddish “Dona Dona,” a melodic metaphor for the Jews living through Russian pogroms. She was also devoted to the collection of vintage Jewish folk songs in Hebrew, Ladino and Yiddish. She appears here in the 1960s.
