Israeli immunologist Ruth Arnon's research towards the development of the first synthetic antigen—a substance to arouse the body's immune system—led, thirty years later, to the production of Copaxone, a primary drug for the treatment of multiple sclerosis and a major "success story" for the Israeli pharmaceutical industry.
