When we celebrated my victory on election night, my older daughter, Eve, said, 'Thank God, we got her out of our house and into their House.'"

"I stressed three major themes in my campaign - peace and Vietnam, a reordering of our spending priorities, and, as my slogan indicated, women's rights. As far as I can tell, I was, with the possible exception of Jeannette Rankin, the first female candidate to win election to Congress in a campaign that stressed women's equality issues."
