History Makers spotlights historically significant Jewish women such as:

• Hannah Greenebaum Solomon, founder of the National Council of Jewish Women
• Bobbie Rosenfeld, Olympic athlete
• Anna Sokolow, modern dancer and choreographer
• Gertrude Elion, Nobel Prize-winning medical researcher

History Makers recognizes and highlights the lives and accomplishments of sixteen trailblazing Jewish women, each of whom had the courage and conviction to overcome the social, cultural, and religious barriers she faced in creating a more just and equitable world.

History Makers brings women's history and female role models into the mainstream of Jewish and American life by making biographical information and historical context accessible through posters, teaching resources, and web exhibits, all of which provide a rich array of photographs, documents, artifacts, timelines, and quotations.

Components of History Makers are used by educators, scholars, community leaders, and students around the world, in schools, synagogues, community centers, national organizations, public libraries, and women's studies programs, inspiring people of all ages and backgrounds with a wide range of role models.

History Makers posters and web pages were researched and put online from 1996–2002 under the original name, "Women of Valor." The current revised interface was created in time for Women's History Month 2010. A critical element in the revised interface is the "Discuss" section at the bottom of each page inviting comments, updates, and links to additional online resources. Any site reader can contribute and is invited to do so.
