[My mother] had gone to a women's Federation meeting and she had heard about a summer intern program with the Jewish Communal Service. She sent me information about it and said, "You can actually apply for this internship from where you are and they will just interview you when you get home and, assuming that the interview goes ok, this could be your summer job." And it was like, "Ok, fine." It really was because of her eyes and ears that I was able to participate in that summer intern program that was truly the turning point in terms of my life. I had never dreamed that someone could have a career in Jewish communal service. That summer opened my eyes to people working in the Jewish community... and I had such a fantastic experience doing that.
