They never believed that their stories would be told in this most amazing way. It has the status of all the museums in the Smithsonian complex. And they never believed that now close to 90% of all the visitors would not be Jewish.
It has become truly, truly a symbol and most importantly, a very important educational center. And, it's not simply a memorial, it truly is a museum and its lessons are very much from the past, but unfortunately, its lessons are very much for the present. The museum has been dealing with a lot of really tough subject matter, looking at early warning signs of other genocides, most recently in the Sudan.
