"I think for Jewish women certainly the idea of power, and courage and strength and leadership is in the [Jewish] tradition. I worry about this generation that grew up with the visible stereotype of the [Jewish American Princess]... I certainly think the essence [of the tradition] for Jewish women is one of courage and outspokenness. There is a lot of sexism in antisemitism that gets hit with that [outspoken Jewish female] imagery in this country. There were so many Jewish women active in the second wave and now in the third wave [of feminism]. I think so much [that was positive] came out of our mother's and grandmother's generation - trade union organizers, progressive leaders, mothers who led their families from persecution.
