Frequently Asked Questions

• Q. What do I do if I don’t have access to a scanner?

  A. Take your object(s) to Kinko’s, Staples, or your local copy shop and ask to have them scanned and put onto a CD. Then mail the CD to the Jewish Women’s Archive with a completed Contribution Form.

• Q. Will the Jewish Women’s Archive WWII Project accept photocopies of my photographs, letters, documents, etc.?

  A. While we strongly prefer a scanned version of your object(s), you may send us a high quality photocopy; we cannot guarantee that it will be added to the digital archive.

• Q. Will the Jewish Women’s Archive WWII Project return my object(s) to me?

  A. We cannot return your materials, so we ask you not to send us your original or only copy of a photograph or document.

• Q. If I have more than one copy of my photograph or other item, can I send you one, rather than having it scanned or photocopied?

  A. Yes, but please note that we cannot return any materials that you submit.

• Q. What should I do if I want to contribute my item(s) to the Jewish Women's Archive but limit their use?

  A. Call (617) 383-6754 and staff will discuss the options with you.

• Q. What will the Jewish Women's Archive do with the material it collects for this project?

  A. Our initial goal is to preserve stories, documents, images, etc. that document the experiences of Jewish women in America during WW II. We hope in the future to create a searchable database and an online exhibit.

• Q. Why is the Jewish Women's Archive not collecting the stories of Jewish women in Europe during WW II?

  A. Many efforts are underway to document the Holocaust. We are concentrating on the often overlooked experiences of Jewish women in North America during this period.
