Richard Menkis is associate professor at the University of British Columbia, cross appointed to the departments of History and Classical, Near Eastern and Religious Studies. He received a Ph.D. from Brandeis University in 1988. His area of expertise is the cultural and social history of Canadian Jewry. He is the founding editor of Canadian Jewish Studies/Etudes juives canadiennes which he edited between 1993 and 2000. He co-edited, with Norman Ravvin, The Canadian Jewish Studies Reader (2004) and has been appointed, with Harold Troper, editor of the Canadian entries for the new edition of the Encyclopedia Judaica. His current research focuses on the production and reception of historical narratives of the Canadian Jewish experience.
