Justin Kaplan

Justin Kaplan won the Pulitzer Prize and National Book Award for Mr. Clemens and Mark Twain. His Walt Whitman: A Life also received a National Book Award. A member of the American Academy of Arts and Letters, he is editor of the 16th and 17th editions of Bartlett’s Familiar Quotations. He was born in New York City and educated at Harvard. He and Anne Bernays have co-authored two books of non-fiction, The Language of Names and Back Then, a memoir. His new book, When the Astors Owned New York, will be published in June 2006.
