A folklorist by training and a documentary filmmaker by trade, Susan Levitas had spent years documenting the rich cultural life of the American South in 1996’s The Music District and 2003’s Shalom, Y’All. When the storm hit, Levitas, who was pregnant at the time, returned to her parents’ home in Atlanta and navigated the complexities of a multigenerational home while trying to find doctors to oversee her pregnancy and planning her older daughter’s bat mitzvah. In the years since, she has remained in Atlanta, where she does voiceover work for media projects of all kinds.
