Collection Description: The Ida Kaminska papers pertain predominantly to Kaminska's theatrical career in the United States. A smaller amount of material pertains to the period when Kaminska and her husband lived in Warsaw and led the Esther Rachel Kaminska Jewish State Theater in Poland. The collection consists of photographs, letters, telegrams, clippings, awards, notes, personal documents, and materials pertaining to the stage productions of "Mother Courage," by Bertold Brecht, "Sore-Sheynel from Yehupetz," by Joseph Lateiner, and "Mirele Efros," by Jacob Gordin. Also included are materials about the Oscar-winning film "The Shop on Main Street," and the TV production "Mandelstam's Witness" (CBC 1975). Her second husband's correspondence as director of the Jewish State Theater in Warsaw is included. There are, as well, photographs taken at the fiftieth anniversary memorial service for Esther Rachel Kaminska in Warsaw, in 1975, and obituaries and condolences on Meir Melman's death in November 1978.
The material is in English and Yiddish.
